There is nothing quite as infuriating to me as blatant bigotry.

Really? Just... really? Watch the trailer. Read the article. I promise, it'll be incredibly difficult to resist the urge to kill after seeing this. For those of you too lazy to click the link, in short, the American Family Association has struck again, with a video entitled "They're Coming to Your Town".

Residents of the small Arkansas town of Eureka Springs noticed the homosexual community was growing.  But they felt no threat.  They went about their business as usual.  Then, one day, they woke up to discover that their beloved Eureka Springs, a community which was known far and wide as a center for Christian entertainment--had changed.  The City Council had been taken over by a small group of homosexual activists. The Eureka Springs they knew is gone.  It is now a national hub for homosexuals.  Eureka Springs is becoming the San Francisco of Arkansas. The story of how this happened is told in the new AFA DVD “They’re Coming To Your Town."

Personally, I can't understand how this could have gone through so many people- it takes more than a handful of fundamentalists to produce a professional video- without being questioned somewhere along the line. Do people actually think this is how things work? People ask for rights, and it's "taking over"? This isn't science fiction. These are people. Contrary to popular belief (ha), homosexuals are NOT going to beam up the Christians in a spaceship and perform experiments; they won't break into your houses and steal your children with the intention of selling them to Gypsies. It is one thing to disagree, but to take it as far as this is simply embarrassing. Yes, embarrassing. Even those who disagree with homosexuality shouldn't be condoning this sort of thing; it undermines everything they want to accomplish. I'm pretty sure that if you want to be taken seriously, step number one is to avoid looking like a crazy fool. Does the American Family Association honestly believe that it's going to accomplish anything with this video? They're not going to get very far if they're trying to change the minds of "misguided" liberals. Anyone who would buy into this is already on their side, and anyone who's not will just be further alienated by the sheer ignorance presented in the video.

I understand that we have a right to free speech. I can't really blame them for making this offensive piece of akdljfalkfjdgaf. The way I see it, I think I'm right- but then again, so do they. And there's no way for us to know which one of us actually has the answer. Whether there's a God or not, nothing is going to be able to tell us during our time on earth which opinion is truly good and will put humanity on the righteous path. But even so, I don't understand the motive behind this. I can't comprehend the paranoia that inevitably accompanies this point of view. Not every disagreement is an attack. Not every step (in EITHER direction) is antagonistic. Those who try to victimize themselves- and in turn, their allies- are doing themselves a disservice. No one takes a diehard fundie seriously. There's a not-so-fine line between having a strong opinion and being a bigot, and in this case, that line was crossed.

Can someone help me out, please? I realize that this is very long (and half of you probably have no intention of reading it), but I'm at a loss. Can someone explain to me what this is about?

mulcheleonO (4:14:17 PM): somehow, even when you're not around, you keep adding to my own little definition of what love is
mulcheleonO (4:15:08 PM): I just found myself wondering if I had actually missed anyone before because it had never felt like this
mulcheleonO (4:17:03 PM): and of course I have, but it just can't compare

God I miss you so much.

I HATE THE REGISTRAR.

I got the very last time slot on campus for registration two semesters in a row. Aren't these things supposed to alternate?

I'm getting closed out of every class I need for requirements. I'm supposed to have gotten my writing class out of the way before freshman year is over, and I may not get to because none of them are open anymore. I may not get into a dance class next semester, and I may get closed out of any theatre classes I could take.

This is STUPID. First of all, I think I'm the only person (or one of few) who got a shitty time TWICE in a row. Second of all, why doesn't Skidmore cap courses? You know, save some room in each class for the poor suckers who don't get to register until a week after everyone else? We have no say in what time slot we're assigned- why should we have to pay fifty thousand a year to take shit classes that are part of no major and fulfill no requirements? This is just idiotic.

I'm panicking.

I just learned the biggest downside of college. Legit.

In theory, you're supposed to be able to see people whenever you want. You have more freedom. Fewer restrictions. (Blah, I guess those are the same thing.) But really- people are always gushing about how much TIME they have.

...Why don't I have that?

My schedule is busy. My friends' schedules are busy. People I meet and really connect with do things that I don't do, and whenever I'm free, they're not. At least in high school you were forced to be in the same place six hours a day, so even if the rest of your life was too hectic, you were guaranteed to see them at SOME point.

Not here.

There are a bunch of people I really miss from my show... and meeting them for lunch once a week, when we both actually have time, isn't enough. This is tough.

Wow. It's been ages since I wrote in this. (I realize I said that last time I posted... but for some reason, I tend to read other people's blogs and neglect my own.) Something, though, has made me really want to dig this thing out again:

THE ELECTION.

I voted for Obama. I'm thrilled that he won, trust me- the last thing I wanted was McCain in office.

...But I have a secret.

IT DOESN'T MATTER. At all. Really.

I'm not going to get into who's better, blah blah. Honestly, that's all opinion. And no matter who you voted for, there's no way you can deny that. There's no real way to claim that you're right and everyone else is wrong. Hell, everyone in the damn nation is saying that right now, and there's no way all of us can be right or all of us can be wrong. Different people want different things from the government. What I want isn't more important than what anyone else wants, and my opinion isn't superior to anyone else's. It's just mine. And you have yours. And that's okay. That's kind of the foundation of the United States, isn't it? Having your own opinion and being accepted all the same no matter what you believe in?

Obama won. He's our president for the next four years. (Did you hear me? OUR president. Whether you voted for him or not. Unless you plan on leaving the country, he's YOUR president too.) Bitching and moaning about the state of the nation will do nothing but make people tune you out. (Trust me, I learned this when Bush was elected. All the Democrats had to deal with him for eight years. The Republicans have nothing to complain about.) Let's be grown-ups, please, and just accept this. No one is going to be perfect. And at the same time, the checks and balances of our government will ensure that America doesn't go down in flames within the next four years.

The election's over. Let it be over.
